Cacti are adapted to life in the desert.  They can survive temperature extremes with very little water.  Spines protect them from hungry animals.  If the rains come, they bloom in spring.  Mojave Desert cacti flowers are very colorful!

Beautiful pictures! I’ve always been so fascinated by cacti flowers. I’ve been to a nice garden in Eze in the South of France where they also have very nice cacti collection. Still, nothing compares to seeing them out there in the desert. 😉

Thank you! The contrast between delicate flowers and the challenging climate of the desert is amazing. We watch the bloom forecast every year, and if the conditions are right, we drop what we’re doing and head to the desert for a few days. France sounds amazing – we would like to visit someday!
