Green Anole a Winner in Nature’s Best Photography Contest!

Green Anole

Our green anole is a winner in the Nature’s Best Photography – Best Backyards Photo Contest!  The picture is published in the current Spring/Summer 2012 issue on page 107.  The caption reads as follows:  “The green anole is the only anole species native to Florida.  Green anoles are seldom seen, because nonnative Cuban brown anoles are crowding them out.  Although it is easy to dismiss it as a common yard lizard, the green anole’s beauty is stunning when viewed up-close.  The dewlap is fanned out during courtship and defensive posturing.  The challenge for the photographer is to remain patient and capture the anole’s throat fan during the split second it is flared.”
