Starfish Flower Bloom

Our starfish flower (Stapelia gigantea) bloomed today in our Undersea Illusion Reef Garden.  The buds swell up like balloons, and then burst open with a puff of pungent air to attract flies.  The flowers can be up to 10-12 inches across.  This amazing plant is part of the milkweed family.  Another post on our Undersea Illusion Reef Garden is at:  https://naturetime.wordpress.com/2012/08/20/our-undersea-illusion-reef-garden/
