Lighthouses in Iceland sit in incredibly scenic locations. Over 100 lighthouses and harbor lights can be found along the country’s rocky shores. Although some of the lighthouses are painted classic white, many are painted bright orange or yellow to contrast best with the black volcanic landscape and white snow in winter.  Another post about Icelandic lighthouses is at:  https://naturetime.wordpress.com/2014/08/06/iceland-best-climb-up-a-lighthouse/

The first three are so brightly colored that they remind me of game markers, for like playing Monopoly. 🙂 You stated a very good reason for painting them those colors, however! I love your composition of image #5.

I am happy you commented on that picture – we loved that one. We could see that view from the house we rented. And if you look extra close, there is a bird at the top of the wall.

  2. Pam, I’ve never seen an orange lighthouse – and I love it! 🙂 Beautiful photos. ~Terri
