Greek Mixing Vessel with Horses and Youths

Greek Mixing Vessel with Horses and Youths

Greek Mixing Vessel with Horses and Youths (480 BC). Terracotta. Getty Villa, Malibu/Pacific Palisades, California. One of best places/museums to visit in the Los Angeles area. Descriptive sign says “A krater was used to mix wine and water at a symposion, an aristocratic male drinking party. On this example, two young men are shown leading their horses. The scene would have reflected the interests of the party’s participants, since owning and caring for horses was a privilege of wealthy Athenians.
