Today was a gorgeous day at Sebastian Beach, Florida.  The weather and water are warm, and the sea turtles are busy nesting at night.  In fact as of today, the area has recorded the second highest count ever of documented sea turtle nests.  Scientists rope off the nest sites to keep the eggs safe until the turtles hatch.  Great time of year!

UPDATE:  Final sea turtle nesting totals at Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge on August 27, 2016, are:  Loggerhead – 20,376; Green – 1,295; Leatherback – 72, and Kemp’s Ridley – 1.

Wow, that brings back some memories! I don’t know how we survived as kids at the beach. We had no idea about rip currents, and I still have all my arms and legs! Rarely heard of shark bites, especially in knee deep waves. My family loved the beach, so we went frequently. I’ve played in the waves at Sebastian as a child, and have fished off the jetty with my husband. Sebastian still looks pristine 🙂

How wonderful you know Sebastian too! It is our favorite weekend spot. We also walked on the fishing pier. Right alongside it we saw manatees, green and blue pipefish, fantail mullet, yellow jack, and 3 spotted sea eagle rays!
