Shy Eastern Coral Snake. This snake is rarely seen and often hides in undergrowth. It only bites if handled. Winegar Backyard, Palm Bay, Florida. A familiar ditty to distinguish venomous vs. nonvenomous snakes with these colors is: “Red by yellow – kill a fellow. Red by black – it’s all right Jack.”
