Spectacular Night Blooming Cactus Flowers!
June 12, 2019 23 Comments
Our night blooming cactus put on the best show ever on Sunday night – over 60 huge flowers were in bloom! This snake vine cactus (Selenicereus pteranthus – Princess of the Night) is only 7 years old and grew from a tiny cutting. Moths pollinate the flowers. What a spectacular sight! beautiful, just lovely….
Thanks! These flowers are incredible – my favorite summertime treat!
Wow! Those are gorgeous.
Thanks! They are quite striking!
Stunning, Pam!
Beauties aren’t they? Nature is grand!
That is amazingly cool looking!
Thanks! It’s the best!
Wow this is amazing!!! Do they only bloom one night and if so that would be awful if you miss it.
Yes it is only one night. But there are tons of blooms and you can tell the day before that the flower should be opening. But the first big bloom is the best of all, so this night I had to stop everything and get pictures!
How exciting that must be!
What a fantastic cactus, Pam! I’ve never seen one like that before. Does it only bloom once a year? ~Terri
It blooms mainly in June and July, but the first BIG bloom is best. There were over 60 flowers – each the size of a dinner plate!
These shots are just stunning, Pam!
I was ready this year – bought a special light so I could get quality pictures quickly before the mosquitoes bit me up! 🙂
Good thinking! They’re starting to come out here, too. What kind of light? A camera flash?
Flash didn’t really do the job. This is like a giant flashlight. I got it on amazon and it is called a “portable LED video light”.
Whoa…. sounds fancy ✨✨
I like it because it is really like a flashlight – just mega scale and easy to use.
Hello Pam.
Wow, how beautiful. Excellent photos. I love Black background in your photos. Long time ago we have had some Cactuses and when blooming, then they rewarded us. Thank you sharing these lovely pics with us.
Happy upcoming weekend!
Thank you! The cactus are spectacular when they bloom!
Very cool! I don’t know what it is about cacti, but they have some of the most amazing flowers.
I feel the same way! Just stunning!
