We love our Florida birds, especially in spring. This post shows egrets and other white birds during nesting season, when feathers are plumed and colors are bright. If you are lucky, you will see great egrets, snowy egrets, and cattle egrets together in one big breeding colony – it is quite a sight! Sometimes wood storks and white ibis nest there too!

Fabulous captures!
Thanks! Great time of year!
I love egrets. Wonderful images. I always wanted to hang around Texas a little longer for nesting season. Perhaps, one day.
The birds are great there. We made a trip one spring to Texas to see all the birding hotspots and wildflowers. Plan it for during the eclipse in spring 2024! A friend told me about a wonderful birding book and I loved it! Thanks for the book idea. I’ve seen that name (Connie Hagar) around Rockport. We’ve always visited during Jan and Feb and I’d love to visit during spring.
You’ll fall in love with the birds all over again. Her sightings over those early years are just incredible – thousands of hummingbirds!
Super Fotos!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you! I can’t get enough of these beautiful birds!
Love, love, love these photos! I’ve never seen the breeding colors so beautifully captured! Thank you for these!
Thank you so much! I think we have the prettiest birds ever, and the best part is that we can get close enough with a zoom lens to see and photograph them!
Wow! You are lucky to see all three of these. Great photos!
Thank you! Love the birdies!
Beautiful Photo’s, what a bird.
Never grows old – love visiting the nesting rookery!
Absolutely stunning photographs!
Thank you so much! Birds are amazing!
Love the “Whites”! Awesome shots, Pam!
Awwww. Thanks! So much to love!
I egret I wasn’t there..Great images.
Too funny! 🙂
Pam, there are many things I don’t miss about Florida, hurricanes and humidity for example. But one of the things that I really do miss is the incredible variety of bird life. Your photos are exceptional, and I feel qualified to say that as someone who has taken hundreds of mediocre to crappy bird photos at the beach, in the marsh, or at the many fresh water lakes scattered around the state.
After living there a while it’s easy to take these wonderful birds for granted, but with a little time with nothing but robins, cardinals and blackbirds, your excellent photos remind me of what I miss most about Florida. ~James
